Future 500 | Call for Applications European Leadership Workshop 2025

Plurality in Europe – Venice as a Case Study for Interreligious and Worldview Relations
7 – 11 October 2025 | Venice, Italy

Explore Europe’s pluralistic future through the lens of Venice’s rich history.

Future 500 is inviting 20 aspiring European leaders to take part in the European Leadership Workshop 2025 in Venice.

At a time when European democracies are facing increasing challenges, we will examine Venice as a living symbol of historical complexity and contemporary resilience. From religious coexistence to migration and urban transformation to the preservation of cultural identity, Venice provides an inspiring setting in which to reconsider plurality in Europe.

Throughout the programme, participants will explore the city’s historical interreligious dynamics, visit key religious and cultural sites, and engage in dialogue with community representatives. The programme will include collaborative sessions and workshops on migration, diversity and strategies for social cohesion, with the aim of developing strategies for a more inclusive Europe. Artistic and cultural encounters – such as an artist talk with Deniz Utlu – will offer additional space for reflection and creative engagement. The programme is realised in cooperation with the German Study Centre in Venice and the Dr. Christiane Hackerodt Arts and Culture Foundation.

Why apply?

  • Engage with Europe’s plural past to shape its plural future: Discover how Venice’s history of religious and cultural negotiation can inspire more inclusive democratic strategies across Europe.
  • Co-create impactful ideas: Collaborate with scholars, community representatives, and fellow participants to develop policy recommendations on pluralism, integration, and civil society engagement.
  • Experience immersive learning: Participate in expert-led workshops, guided site visits, and reflective dialogue in a setting where history and modernity collide.

The EPNA Autumn Workshop in Rome brought together practitioners from across Europe to explore the issue of antisemitism in Italy. As the host of the oldest Jewish community, Italy is a very interesting case study from historical and political perspectives. Learning at the workshop took place through presentations on the Italian case and a panel discussion which brought together policymakers to discuss the topic of building trust across sectors in order to combat antisemitism. Furthermore, the workshop provided participants with skills training and opportunities to engage in active exchange with local organisations.
