CPPD | 1. European Congress »Memory Matters« | St. Pölten

How can we integrate the remembrance of violent events into the culture of remembrance and strengthen coexistence in a diverse society? The conference “Need for Remembrance: Conference on Plural Remembrance in Migrant Societies,” taking place from June 1-2, 2024, in St. Pölten, addresses opportunities and gaps in dealing with cultures of remembrance. In interconnected contributions, scholars, members of affected communities and artists will discuss the cultural and political remembrance of racially motivated acts of violence in panels, workshops, and other formats.

The first European CPPD Congress is held in cooperation with Tangente St. Pölten. In addition to panels, workshops and a networking event for professionals, the Dynamic Memory Lab — a temporary exhibition space showing “Codes of Memory in Sinti* and Roma* Communities”— will be featured and expanded to include a regional perspective. With this European orientation, the CPPD responds to the increased need for transnational networking in matters of remembrance.

Partners: Tangente St. Pölten, Institute for Jewish History in Austria, INJOEST.
